Student Advisory Council (SAC)

The Student Advisory Council welcomes you to discover who we are, what we do and why we exist. Come meet our members and get acquainted!

SAC understands that interior design students are the future of the profession and of the Society. In order to encourage and support this membership segment, the SAC concentrates on building programs for students that will enhance their undergraduate learning and ease their transition into the professional ranks.

Meet The 2012 Student Advisory Council!

Jon Blunt, ASID, Chair
I Advise: Professional Chapters

Jon Blunt, ASID, with Luken Interiors in Dayton, Ohio, has 15 years of experience in both residential and commercial design projects.  With a BS in marketing from Indiana University and AS degree in interior design from Sinclair Community College, he has designed a large variety of projects including government offices, oncology centers, retail stores, and individual residences.  His work has been featured in Cincinnati Magazine as a design award winner in 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2009.  He has also received design awards from the ASID Ohio South/Kentucky Chapter in 2006 and 2009.  Mr. Blunt has held many positions within ASID including student chapter president at Sinclair Community College, Allied rep to the board, membership director, and chapter president.  He has also served as an advisor to other chapter presidents in his role as member of the Chapter Support Team, and is currently serving as student affairs chair of the Ohio South/Kentucky Chapter.

 

Mary Cain, ASID
I Advise: Faculty Advisors

Mary Cain is a professional member of ASID (American Society of Interior Designers) and IDEC (Interior Design Educators Council). She has enjoyed a career as an interior designer and educator for over 20 years. She is the Academic Director of Interior Design at The Illinois Institute of Art-Schaumburg. Mary holds bachelor’s degrees in psychology and interior design and a master’s in educational leadership. Currently she is earning a doctorate in higher education leadership. Mary has served as a juror for the NCIDQ exam, has been a panelist and task force member for the Council for Interior Design Accreditation, and annually participates in the ASID Career Exchange for students.             

 

Carlo Camillo Chiulli, Student Member ASID
I Advise: Student Representatives to the Board

Carlo’s background varies across a broad range of endeavors through his travels around the world in pursuit of experience and knowledge of different cultures and design. Among his out-reach activities, he has worked on the FOX Network, reality television series, “Kitchen Nightmares,” with Celebrity Chef Gordon Ramsey, redesigning several restaurant dining halls along the East Coast from Florida to New York City. He has also worked on Bravo’s network series “Tabitha’s Salon Take Over,” redesigning and employing his carpentry skills for hair salons and spas. He enjoys active involvement in the local New York City professional interior design community and also the enhancement of interior design education nationally.
       

                     

               

Katherine Fern, ASID, IDEC
I Advise: Faculty Advisors

Kat is currently teaching the business strategies and project management courses in the UCLA Extension Cal-Poly Pomona Joint Study Program for a master’s degree in interior architecture. She has chaired the faculty committee for the program’s CIDA reaccreditation, and has been the faculty advisor to the ASID UCLA Extension Student Chapter for the past four years. The chapter has won the ASID national “Outstanding Student Chapter” for two consecutive years. In 2010, she was awarded ASID’s Faculty Advisor of the Year for her work with the student chapter and will take on the role of the ASID California Los Angeles Chapter president-elect in 2011.
 

 

Tyson Ness, Allied Member ASID
I Advise: Student Representatives to the Board
 is an interior designer who received his bachelor's degree in interior design in late 2010 from the Art Institute of Salt Lake City. Though originally from Wyoming, Ness currently works in New York Cityand sat on the ASID Intermountain Chapter board as the emerging professional affairs committee chair during the 2010-2011 year. 


 

 


Annette K. Stelmack, Allied Member ASID
I Advise: Student Chapter Presidents

Annette is the founder and principal of Inspirit-llc instilling courage and life by inspiring through a fusion of environmental stewardship and creativity.  With 30 years of experience in the building industry, Annette is a nationally recognized design leader, educator and author - influencing proactive transformation by synergistically sharing her passion, knowledge and strategies for sustainable design. She was founding board member of the U.S. Green Building Council Colorado Chapter serving as steering committee chair, the chapters’ first president and co-leader of the Finance committee for Greenbuild ‘06 hosted in Denver.  USGBC Colorado recently selected Annette as Volunteer of the Year. In her spare time she loves organic gardening, kayaking, biking, and spending time with family especially her husband Tom, their dog Buffett, her son Bryan and daughter-in-law Courtney and her immigrant parents John and Kathy.  

 


Brooke Williams, Student Member ASID

I Advise: Student Chapter Presidents

Brooke Williams, a senior at the Design Institute of San Diego, will be graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Art Degree in Interior Design, December 2011. She has been an active ASID Student Member since 2006, serving on the Student Chapter Board as historian, president-elect, and president. During her time as president, Brooke is most proud of increasing membership and participation on her campus by employing her ‘Turning opportunities into experiences’ motto and encouraging student members to take advantage of all that an ASID Student Membership has to offer. As part of the ASID San Diego chapter’s ‘2010 Day with Designers’ event, Brooke’s team took home the first place award in the annual student charrette.  Brooke served in the U.S Navy for eight years as an information systems technician prior to pursuing her passion in interior design. She is currently attending school full time and working as an independent contractor for several interior design firms in the San Diego area.
