Legislative and Codes Advisory Council

The ASID Legislative and Codes Advisory Council (LCAC) develops and guides the ASID legislative and codes agenda. The LCAC determines ASID positions on state and federal legislation, develops and implements ASID legislative strategy with HST, and works with individual chapters. The LCAC annually allocates legislative financial aid and staff and volunteer resources to coalitions and chapters. The LCAC also develops and guides ASID participation in codes development and adoption processes, including national-, regional- and state-level building codes, as well as other codes and standards affecting the built environment, such as the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Additionally, the LCAC develops and reviews specific code language, as well as strategies for participation in the development of codes, by specific code-writing organizations (International Codes Council, National Fire Protection Association).

The ASID headquarters staff liaison is Don Davis. To reach a member of the Legislative and Codes Advisory Council (LCAC), please submit your inquiry to gpa@asid.org.

LCAC members include:

Duval B. Acker, ASID, CMKBD - CHAIR

What do you hope to accomplish during your term of service?
I hope to advance the goals of the LCAC, help streamline it's processes, provide a wealth of “helps” that Coalitions can easily implement, establish a pattern of multi-year service for the Chair, and assist all ASID members through effective legislative advocacy.

How has ASID influenced/impacted your career?
ASID training has taught me powerful leadership skills, and has enriched our business, through improving client relations and enhanced design skills.

Deborah J. Davis, ASID

Janace A. Harding, ASID

Emily Lorraine Moses, ASID

Why do serve as a volunteer leader for ASID?
I serve because I love what I do. I believe in my profession deeply and passionately. The transformative power of design to change lives, empower people and improve their wellbeing inspires me every day. Promoting and strengthening our profession is key in keeping our creativity alive. Sharing what we do with others and passing on the passion is part of my job, but it’s also something I want to give back to a community that has given me so much.

How has ASID influenced/impacted your career?
In the most impactful way – through leadership opportunities and training. As a student I had a state level leadership position, which transitioned into a national appointment on the Student Advisory Council. As an emerging professional the leadership training and strategic planning workshops I received have influenced all aspects of my career, from project planning to personal goal setting. It has also helped me hone in on understanding how people communicate and plan for change and growth, which is one of my favorite aspects of design. ASID afforded me confidence building and professional connections I value today and will continue to cultivate in the future.

Joyce W. Shore, FASID

What do you hope to accomplish during your term of service?
My goal during my term on the legislative and codes advisory committee as well as the financial aid program is to promote those policies that benefit –– and improve –– the interior design profession and expand interior design practice opportunities.

How has ASID influenced/impacted your career?
Because of ASID, I have had the opportunity to network and share experiences with top designers from around the country. It is through ASID that I learned about CAPS (certified aging in place) and sustainability, which has benefited my clients and enhanced my practice immensely. Also, ASID serves as a strong advocate for our profession and as a protector of my legislative rights.

Dwane G. Adle, ASID, AIA

What do you hope to accomplish during your term of service?
Serving on the LCAC, I hope to gain a better understanding about the legislative process, where each state fits into the process and how ASID can better represent its members at all levels.

Why do serve as a volunteer leader for ASID?
I feel it is important to support your profession in many ways, volunteering for leadership in a professional organization is one important way to keep connected. You get much more out of your career by being involved.
